How to Increase Your Express Entry CRS Score by 50 Points in 2026
Six high-impact strategies to boost your Comprehensive Ranking System score by 50+ points — language upgrades, French testing, education credentials, Canadian experience, job offers, and PNP nominations.
A 50-point CRS jump can be the difference between sitting in the Express Entry pool indefinitely and getting an Invitation to Apply in the next draw. Here are the six highest-impact moves in order of how fast they typically deliver points.
1. Retake your language test (+30 to +75 points)
Going from CLB 7 (IELTS 6.0 in all four) to CLB 9 (IELTS 7.0 reading/listening, 7.0 writing/speaking) adds:
- +24 core human capital points (or +18 if you have a spouse)
- +25 to +50 skill transferability points (combinations with education / work experience)
This is the single biggest lever for most candidates. A focused 4–6 week prep cycle often delivers a half-band improvement.
2. Add French testing (+25 to +50 points)
Even reaching NCLC 7 in French with a CLB 5+ in English earns +50 points. NCLC 7 with CLB 4 English earns +25. Combined with category-based French-language draws (CRS cutoffs in the 380s), this is the best CRS hack of 2026.
3. Get a Provincial Nomination (+600 points)
A PNP nomination effectively guarantees an ITA. The catch: PNPs have their own eligibility (often requiring a job offer, ties to the province, or specific in-demand occupations). For candidates close to CRS 500, focus on Express Entry-aligned PNP streams that add the 600 points to your federal profile.
4. Get a second education credential (+30 points)
If you have multiple post-secondary credentials, getting your second credential assessed (ECA) can add +15 to +30 points depending on the level. A Master’s or PhD adds more than a Bachelor’s. Canadian education adds an additional +15 to +30 points on top.
5. Gain Canadian work experience (+35 to +80 points)
One year of Canadian skilled work moves you into CEC and adds skill transferability points. Two or more years adds more.
6. Get a valid LMIA-supported job offer (+50 or +200 points)
A valid arranged employment in NOC TEER 0/1/2/3 with an LMIA adds 50 points. A senior management NOC TEER 0 role adds 200. This requires an employer willing to obtain a PR-supporting LMIA.
What to do this week
If you’re under CRS 500, start your French prep today. NCLC 7 is achievable in 4–6 months for most learners with consistent practice, and it’s the cheapest 50 points in Express Entry history.
