Canadian Visitor Visa (TRV)
A Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa or TRV) lets you enter Canada for up to 6 months per visit for tourism, family visits, short business trips, or other temporary purposes.
Who Needs a TRV
Citizens of visa-required countries need a TRV before traveling to Canada. Citizens of visa-exempt countries (US, UK, EU, etc.) typically need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) instead.
Application Requirements
A strong visitor visa application includes:
- โ Valid passport
- โ Letter of invitation from a Canadian host (if applicable)
- โ Proof of ties to home country (employment, family, property)
- โ Proof of funds for the trip
- โ Travel itinerary and accommodation arrangements
- โ Photo and biometrics
Single vs Multiple Entry
Most TRVs issued today are multi-entry, valid for up to 10 years or until passport expiry. Single-entry TRVs are issued in limited circumstances.
