Non-SDS Study Permit (Regular Stream)
The regular study permit stream is now the standard path for all international students. With SDS discontinued, this is the only stream for student permit applications from outside Canada.
Eligibility
You must hold a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), prove funds for first-year tuition plus $20,635+ for living expenses, intend to leave Canada at the end of your studies, and have no inadmissibility issues.
Documents Required
Strong applications include:
- โ LOA from a DLI
- โ Provincial Attestation Letter (most undergraduate applicants)
- โ Proof of funds (bank statements last 4+ months, GIC, education loan)
- โ Statement of Purpose / Study Plan
- โ Academic transcripts and language test results
- โ Passport and digital photo
- โ Family information form
- โ Medical exam (if required) and police certificate
Processing Time & Fees
8 to 16 weeks depending on country. Government fees: CAD $150 study permit + $85 biometrics. Strongly recommend professional review before submission.
